2 Common Regrets after University

I thought I should share my experience on two common I faced after my studies in the university. I believe this should encourage current university and college students to avoid making these mistakes.

University life is the best part of of young life. University and colleges provide an environment where student are left to make decisions for themselves and manage their personal lives. Exposure to culture and different lifestyles is very dynamic. Friends from different works of life, background, ethnicity and beliefs are found, new friends are made which turn to last for a lifetime. Its a life filled with freedom, laughter, partying, joking, excitement, pain, stress, love and opportunity. Everything doesn't seem to matter at such stage as everything that is needed is made available (food, power, water, etc).  Life seems interesting and cool. A life of luxury but this life is seasonal and the real world is waiting with challenges out there to crush whoever that comes out of a university.

A common regret that most have after leaving university is how they missed most opportunity when it was given on a golden plate.  Two common regrets among others that I'd like to share are:

1. Didn't study well enough when you had the chance.

There will always come a time when a concept that you missed in the university thinking, "its of  least importance and relevance" requires attention. Only then will you realise that you had the opportunity once to grab hold of that very piece of information but you let it slip through your hand. The information will be available but at a price you don't want to pay.

My Say "Knowledge is vital, grab hold of it and don't let it slip past."

Note: Courses are designed based on prerequisites by experts of these fields and its designed to deliver whats relevant for personal consumption and application latter as professional.

2. Didn't make good/enough friends when you had the chance

Unlike others, friends in universities tend to last for a lifetime. People you seem to ignore in the university will become someone that you will need in the near future. Only then will you realise that you've had the chance to be his/her good friend back then but you missed the chance probably because of his/her weird look etc. As students sharing textbooks, course notes, lectures halls, libraries together with other fellow student is a great opportunity to make friend with everyone you encounter through exchanges of brief chats,  hand shakes or smiles; they will be persons you will need to help you out in something/situation in the near future.

My Say "Make as many friends as you can and from all different course, stream and level of study (eg: engineering, business, law, medicine, etc)"

Balancing social, spiritual and mental life and develop responsible attitudes to manage all aspects of life is vital. University environment is set up to mold young students to learn about life and manage all aspects of their life in a way that is more mature. Often in university studies, peer pressure/influence and emotional stress are the major causes of failure.

In conclusion, make good use of the opportunity once its given for it will never come again. Be smart when learning and make the most out of your college life.
