Fix Spark Plug and Spark Problems in a Small Generator

Here is how to fix your small engine spark plug errors.

I have a Powermate Generator and I was having this problem of spark plug not igniting enough spark to burn gas. I decided to dismantle the entire thing and here is what I found to have been the cause of non spark.

1. Cable inspection

Inspect the cables connection to the ignition switches. Inspect for defects and possible disconnection in the wires running to the coil and to the spark plug. If the cable is intact, then make sure the switch is also ON so it closes the circuit that current flows to ignite spark at the spark plug end.

2. Spark Plug Inspection

Remove the spark plug using the appropriate tools and check check that the spark end is dry. Also clean the end with a dry fine sand paper to remove smog builds ups and dirt. Also use a multi meter to test for the spark plug for fault.

3. Coil Inspection

Check the spacing between the coil and the magnetic plates. If the space is wide, enough current is not produced to ignite the spark and therefore unscrew and readjust the distance between the coil and the magnetic plates. I prefer a distance of 3mm spacing. Use your best judgement to adjust the spacing that it caters for the resistance, avoid physical contact to the magnets and produce enough current to ignite spark.

Once these three inspections are complete, assemble and try start the generator and it should start.
